The Industrial Biotechnology Leadership Forum (IBLF) delivery team, led by the Knowledge Transfer Network, has developed a brand new and unique business competition aimed at early stage SMEs focusing on a bio-based technology or process and who would like raise their profile and access resources to springboard their business.
The aim of the IBLF is to create a positive and supportive environment for emerging biotechnology businesses and has developed the IBLF Awards to help SMEs and start-ups access resources considered key to spring-boarding their business but may be difficult to self-fund.
Pre-revenue SMEs were invited to submit a two minute video, which were assessed by a panel of industry experts and a short-list invited to give a pitch in the Dragons’ Den style session - The IB Den. This session was run as part of the Industrial Biotechnology Showcase event (11-12 February 2015), in London, and assessing the pitches were a panel of industry experts - the IB Dragons.
Dr Mark Long (Naturiol’s post-doctoral research scientist) produced a very convincing video and was invited to give a presentation to the IB Dragons on the 12th of February. From the 9 awards available, we are very happy to announce that one of them was awarded to Naturiol which will receive a £10k voucher to redeem against a service kindly offered by one of the IBLF Awards sponsors. We have since decided to engage the services of Mewburn Ellis LLP to help the company with patenting the technology that was the subject of our entry to the competition namely our non-phytotoxic fatty acid-based organic insecticide.
